The RHT is saddened to report the loss of two key figures in the recent history of Rowhedge and the Trust.
Mike Coppin died peacefully at home on Sunday 14th January. He was a founding Trustee of the RHT, acting as chairman for our first five years. He led the Trust through a key period that first established the Heritage Hut on Lion Quay and initiated a major project to build a permanent Heritage Centre for the benefit of the whole village. After stepping down as chairman, Mike remained actively involved in the RHT, only resigning as a trustee after moving away from the village in 2014.

Jimmy Lawrence passed away on Saturday 20 January 2024. Jim had been a great supporter of the RHT since its origin 20 years ago, and contributed to many events – either bringing his musical skills with the accordion and his inimitable Essex baritone, or to recount his wonderful experiences as a sailing barge skipper, smack owner and sailmaker. Jim was walking maritime heritage itself, and he always had time to share it. He will be badly missed by us, and by many people in the traditional sailing fraternity of the East Coast, amongst whom he was considered a true star.
