This lovely little booklet was originally published in 1977 to mark the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.
It contains forty pages of villagers’ recollections and black-and-white pictures, most of which are from the early 1900s.
Rowhedge Recollections covers various subjects across the working shipyards, Sunday School treats of yesteryear, the village’s former brewery and the 1884 earthquake. Other subjects include the ferry and the bridge over the River Colne, the King’s visit to the village and the clothing factory.
The original book cost 75p and was produced by the Rowhedge Village Association, funded by the Parish Council. Rowhedge Heritage Trust has funded the latest re-print, which costs £4.
