Firecrest is a 15-foot clinker-built wooden sailing dinghy designed by Robbie Stone (better known for the Brightlingsea One Design).
She was built in the early 1950s by Rowhedge Ironworks (which was originally at both ends of the High Street).
We originally arranged to sail her on loan, after contacting the owner through one of our heritage events. We have bought this historic dinghy outright, and she is now operated by the RHT.
Firecrest is nearly 70 years old and needs to be regularly maintained. Some restoration has also been required to keep her seaworthy.
In 2019 local traditional boatbuilder Fabian Bush replaced the decks. In 2021 volunteers from the Trust spent many painstaking hours cleaning and varnishing Firecrest, which allowed her re-launch in time for the 2022 Rowhedge Regatta.
